What I hope to gain from the experience
Connecting familial traces brings me to London. By exploring my family archives and learning about the history of the South Asian and Muslim Diaspora in England (as it is an older country that the U.S), I hope to immerse myself in a timeline that is uniquely its own and I hope to resolve some underlying feelings of my sense of self.
I am interested in the role of symbols and how they can present themselves as a catalyst for life and change. Symbols within familial archives and symbols within cultural aesthetics that exist within areas such as textiles and film. British fashion has been deeply enriched by the presence of the South Asian community. I look forward to immersing myself in the British South Asian contemporary creative scene, and collaborating with artists as well.
