What you hope to gain from the experience professionally and personally
At Kyoto-Seika, I plan to immerse myself in the culture and the unique sense of graphic design. I have become familiar with Western design and modes of thinking, so I look forward to expanding and enriching my own set of values and aesthetics, especially since I am also of Asian descent. Compared to New York City, Kyoto is a quiet and unhurried city — an interesting and hopefully productive change of scenery. It will be an honor to take part in its long history and deeply established traditions. I hope to become more adventurous and confident not only in my professional practice but also in my personal life; to explore how I can integrate my illustration and painting work with graphic design; to make meaningful connections with the people in Kyoto and allow the Japanese language and culture to influence my worldview and how I make work.
